Tonight’s (Tuesday, January 27) session of “Starting Point” has been cancelled due to weather.
Despite the crucifixion’s central place in Christian faith, the New Testament offers few clear answers about how Jesus’ death saves, or why, exactly, he had to die. The New Testament writers use a host of metaphors—ransom, sacrifice, reconciliation, victory—but never explain exactly how it works or why it had to happen this way.
In this six-week study, pastor and best-selling author Adam Hamilton explores if our stumbling block is because we’ve been asking the wrong question. Perhaps instead, we should ask: What if the cross isn’t a transaction to be explained, but a living Word from God meant to transform who we are and how we live?

Sarah Circle will meet on Wednesday, January 21, at 6:45 PM in Room 215
The group will using sermon notes and small group discussion questions to lead the evening’s conversation. Group leader Dot Hess says: “as always we welcome new members.”

Named after Sarah (an older mother who LAUGHS), the Sarah Circle meets both on- and off-site, in-person, hybrid, and via Zoom. Meetings focus on discussion of a chosen study book with an occasional special program. Fellowship is an integral part of the group. In December and June the group meets for dinner and enjoys several fun outings throughout the year. Monthly meetings are hybrid, which allows members who have moved, or have other restrictions, to continue participating. At Christmas, the group adopts a family in need. Most members have adult children in their 20’s and 30’s. Some are blessed with grandchildren. The group welcomes new members… especially those who laugh! Sarah Circle celebrated its 30th year in 2022.

The light meal will be served in the Wesley Center between 6 PM and 6:30 PM. Food items may include pizza, sandwiches, tea, coffee, drinks and dessert. There is no charge, but a free-will offering will be collected to help offset the costs of the meal.

Family Man is a 4-week small group for men who want to connect with others navigating family life today. Each week we’ll talk about real-life topics such as finding healthy rhythms between work and home, showing up well for our spouse and kids, and making a positive impact in our families and communities. Each week is thoughtfully structured around Scripture and well-researched perspectives on work and family to help guide meaningful conversation. Expect great conversation, practical ideas, and simple weekly challenges to try out. All men are welcome, no matter where you are in your faith journey.

Everything has a starting point
—your life, your relationships, your education, your career. Sometimes we forget that faith has a starting point as well.
For some of us, our faith journey began in childhood as a set of beliefs handed to us by a parent, teacher, or pastor. Maybe you developed a framework of faith based on personal experience. Or maybe you had no faith at all. Too often, a faith formed in childhood isn’t strong enough to withstand the pressures of adult life. But what if you could find a new starting point for faith?
Starting Point is a short-term small group gathering for those with questions about faith or those who simply want to learn more about the Bible and Christianity. Whether you are new to the Christian faith, simply curious about it, or reexamining it after time away from church, you’ll appreciate the accepting, conversational, small group environment that this class offers.

This year’s UWIF Christmas Luncheon will be held on Sunday, December 7 in the Wesley Center following the 11 AM worship service. Entertainment will be provided by a string quartet from Parkland High School. This annual luncheon is a great time for Asbury ladies and guests to enjoy fellowship, have a wonderful meal, and hear some delightful Christmas music – a great way to start the Christmas season!

Join the Men’s Social Group on October 17 for a tour of Coca-Cola Park, home of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs! The tour will visit the locker rooms, brodcast booths, and other areas of the stadium. The tour will last approximately one hour. A group will carpool from the first floor (Wesley Center) parking lot promptly at 8:45 AM. Cost is $5 cash per person.

“The Chosen” Small Group is back for the fall season! Led by Judy Ehninger, this study will meet Sundays from September 7- October 27 at 6:30 PM in the Parlor / Community Room (Room 201). The study is centered on season 3 of the television show “The Chosen,” which is about the life of Jesus.

The Asbury Immigration Study Small Group (“Welcoming the Stranger”) will be hosting Jessica Entwistle, Director of the Refugee Community Center of the Episcopal Church of the Mediator, on Thursday, August 21, 2025 in room 108, beginning at 6:30 PM. Jessica will be leading an informational presentation on the work of the Refugee Center as well as speaking on ways we can advocate for immigrants in our community.
Looking to make an impact in the community? Along with volunteer positions at the Refugee Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays, one of the upcoming needs is for volunteers to escort immigrants to court. They will be holding a training session around the end of August for those interested.

Join other families to spend time together in a relaxed, welcoming environment, and with space for kids to play The Wesley Center will always serve as the group’s starting point, but when the weather is nice, the group may head outside for some fresh air and fun. Whether you’re new to Asbury or have been a member for a while, F3 is a great way to get to know other families and strengthen our church community.
