I have a story of divine intervention. When I moved to the Lehigh Valley in 1987, my choir director in Boston told me of a friend with whom she had played bells before her friend moved to the Lehigh Valley. She suggested I look her up which I intended to do but moving and settling in took priority.
Every Sunday I tried out a new church. The first Sunday I attended Asbury, I sat at the end of a row and filled out the attendance register. At the end of the service the woman sitting at the other end of the row approached me and exclaimed “Shirley – I have been hoping to meet you.” It was Ruth Yeo, my choir director’s friend! Ruth became a great friend and mentor to me. She invited me to join the chancel choir, which has been like a family to me for 35 years.
God speaks to me through music, and I am so fortunate that my children and I have been able to listen to God’s voice through the music programs at Asbury.
