Asbury pastors have the gift of enlightening sermons to bring new members to the church. The homey environment and many programs brought me to the church in 1990. Some of the many programs [I’ve been involved in] included the Christian clown touring ministry, which has been known throughout the Lehigh Valley for many years. The yearly bazaars, liturgical movements in worship on special holidays (especially Christmas Eve and Easter), the many beautiful plays on the pulpit, weekly moments for children in worship, the sharing of so many hobbies in the evening by many members (such as yoga, Boy- and Girl Scouts, holistic tap, martial arts).
I have fond recollections of the trips I’ve taken through Asbury – a tour of Israel and Egypt with Pastor Mindy.
Other impactful programs have been:
- the grief support groups for members and at local nursing homes with meals served to enhance the support. The growth of the Parish Nurses Health Ministry, including blood drives and ever so many groups to embrace moments for all.
- the growth of many Sunday school classes and youth programs (still ongoing)
- the Teddy bear clinic at the preschool.
A whirlwind of action in motion is still in progress as we take these next steps following the isolation caused by COVID.
