In the world of the early Christian Church, access to written materials was scarce. It was largely oral tradition that carried story and belief from generation to generation. The Church fathers realized this and formulated a succinct statement for all Jesus followers to memorize and articulate as their affirmation of belief: “I believe in God the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord…” It still stands as, perhaps, the most clear and concise statement of what it means to be a Christian. In “Creed,” we’ll dive into each part of this statement – The Apostles’ Creed – and learn the power that a centuries-old profession of faith still holds for our lives today.
